Description

I interviewed Bachu Hirani, my grandfather on December 30, 2019 in Fort Mill, South Carolina. For this interview, I chose someone who had an impact on not only our lives as part of his family but also thousands of people back in his village in India. My grandfather’s story is one of hardship, resilience, and determination. He talks of his mother and how she had a great impact on his life; he values family. Bachu Hirani was the first out of many poor villages to come to America, where he worked hard to earn an engineering degree to support his family. He lives by the morals of honesty and helping others, and believes God has helped him along the way. To this day, he still sends money and food to the poor people of his home village, Kamlapur, so nobody ever “sleeps hungry or without a roof.” His life goal early on was to pursue a higher education and help others do so as well. My grandfather is humble enough to not consider himself one, but he is a hero to our family and so many others.
