Jiwand recounts details of his life to his daughter Neera. He grew up in a part of India than was then made into Pakistan after the partition, he then became a refugee fleeing from his home village to India. J grew up in rural India, it is now Pakistan. His parents saved up to send him to high school.
J's family heard they needed to move during the night of Aug 24th 1947 because the next day there was going to be a looting and possible massacre.
J got a job teaching math at a college and his career took off.
J's father had to stay with friends to stay safe. The friends were Muslim but still risked their life.
J moved to USA in 1991.
J's father also influenced him.
