Stuart talks about finding his career path while studying at UC Berkeley and how he became a PhD/MD specializing in tropical diseases.
Stuart remembers how he met Akinyi's mother, Awuor Ayodo, while working in Kenya. He remembers how he met her, her laughter and why he fell in love with her. He notes, "She wasn't looking for a man to support her."
Stuart reflects on how Awuor's AIDs diagnosis changed their lives and relationship. He remembers how their doctors wanted them to terminate their pregnancy.
Stuart recalls how through research and connection he found out about AZT and experimental trails to see whether AZT could halt the transmission of HIV/AIDs from mother to child. He remembers the joy he felt when Akinyi tested negative with HIV/AIDs.
Stuart on how Akinyi saved him after Awuor died and how he came to start working on AIDs/HIV.
Stuart talks about his work at NIH working with HIV/AIDs. He notes, "It's the best job I have ever had...everybody is there for the mission."
