Description

One Small Step conversation partners Donna Becker (74) and Nicholas Reno (35) talk about their experiences with gun ownership in their families, and address their concerns with what the right level of legislation is for them. They bond over their love of motorcycle driving and embrace that they might have different solutions to issues, but are concerned about similar things.

Subject Log / Time Code

Nicholas Reno (NR) introduces himself. Donna Becker (DB) introduces herself.
DB and NR reflect on how fear and emotion have become prevalent in our conversations and across the political aisle rather than working on solutions.
DB and NR share their experiences with gun ranges and gun ownership. As NR is a firearms safety trainer, he shares his experience with who comes to the training and how they feel less scared by the end of it, which leads to more responsible ownership, which is what he wants. DB has enjoyed gun ranges so understands why people enjoy them.
DB and NR reflect on their belief that there's a lot of emphasis on college degrees over trades and how they think that can negatively impact teenagers and their futures.
They thank each other for a great, nuanced conversation and move to make plans to meet in person outside of this structure.
