DescriptionPhyllis Wimberly ( My Grandmom ) spent her 40 year career as a Washington DC public school teacher integrating her AP English classes.
As an activist and teacher her goal was to send kids to college that wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance.
Instead of using the almost completely white biased Curriculum mandatory by the schools at that time, she introduced her mostly African American students to authors that resembled them and talked about things that they could relate to.
