In this interview done on April 20, 2019, Patricia Tran (20) interviews her mother (60) about her life in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and her journey in fleeing and adapting to the United States and its culture. Thuy Nguyen depicts the war-torn turmoil in Vietnam and the depression of how war affected her home and wrecked her way of living. In the process of fleeing, luck, right timing, and religion are on her side as she successfully leaves the day before Saigon is lost to the Viet Cong. Thuy Nguyen talks about the difficulties in assimilating, but, also the kindness she encountered while settling in.
