Description

I sat down with my Grandpa who is 79 years old to discuss his life as a teacher, father, brother, and as a child who grew up in the aftermath of WWII. We began the interview with questions geared towards his upbringing and childhood; he described his memories of V-J Day and his relationship with his brother King, who he admired deeply. As he detailed what his relationship with his brother was like we then moved to the subject of his mother, he described her as courageous and self-sufficient in a time when it was taboo for women to drive, hold jobs, and speak their minds. He also told me that her doctor (Carl Weiss) shot Huey Long, the governor of LA in the 1930s. We wrapped up the interview with a discussion of federal legislation that was important to him, presidents who he admired, his career as a political science professor at PITT, and the people in life who he misses the most.
