DescriptionThis interview was conducted November 26, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois. Natalia Beltran (16) interviewed her mom, Erica Avila (36) about her childhood in Humboldt Park and how living in such a troubled neighborhood shaped her into the woman she is today. Erica lived in a single parent home with two brothers and had to begin working at the age of 13 to help pay for bills. Since then she has continued to work and be ambitious to strive for better in her career and personal life. Erica has been a single parent with two kids with a very busy job working in the Legal and Public Affairs Department at Northern Trust. She also gives her teenage daughter advice as she is in the early stages of entering adulthood.
