Description
This interview between Logan Szott and his mother Heather Szott covers Heather's personal history growing up in L.A. and beyond, connecting to multiple historical events, cultural trends, and personal experiences. The interview contains segments of Heather's early life with her half-Mexican hippie rock star father, Ron Harper, experiences with 1970s racism and gangs in Southern California, her life as a student at an all-girls Catholic school (including long conversations about school dances with boys from other schools and playing basketball with nuns in their uniforms), her early work experience at a discount book store and what she learned about higher education and life from the two college graduates she worked with, and her cultural experiences growing up with rock'n'roll bands such as Van Halen, Def Leopard, and Guns'n'Roses. There is also commentary on historic events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, 9/11, and the Tiananmen Square protestas. Personal narratives are included.Participants
