Description
“My tank was severely broken and instead of giving up, I became the cooking sergeant.” On January 6th, 2020 in Los Angeles, California, Caroline Rehder sat down with her grandfather, Greg Palmer, to hear his experiences from being drafted into the Vietnam War, and what it means to him. During his early 20s, Greg received a letter instructing him to attend to the draft board. After getting into the National Guard, he started training at Fort Irwin in the desert. Greg covers the acceptance process, the living standards, and the problems he faced while training. While never actually fighting in battle, he talks about how he assisted the troops and shares more fun stories. At around 3 minutes, Greg shares about how he got granted the platoon sergeant of his team and the many new responsibilities. At around 4:15, he explains how his experience changed for the betterParticipants
