Description

“I would like to see people be inspired to live cooperatively, and balanced, sharing life, space, and resources..."

Susan Murphy was a founding member of Saugerties’ Cantine’s Island Co-Housing Community. With a storyteller’s talent and passion for the concept of living cooperatively with other people and the earth, we hear how the co-housing project originated and developed. We are inspired by her telling of how the historic ruins of the industrial past and the proximity to the Esopus Creek shaped the lives of the individuals who came together to share their common philosophy. Broadened by her experiences as a nurse, activist, artist, and her long-standing association with the Clearwater, Susan continues to be inspired and as a result is an inspiration to others.
