Description

Jorida Dervishi is an idealist through and through. Jorida came from Albania to Milan 4 years ago and opened her own school for women immigrants to help them learn to speak Italian. While working with her school devoted to women immigrants she began working with Scuola Popolare Migranti to teach all those willing to learn Italian. She and here co-teacher Giovanni find every opportunity to help immigrants in Milan to learn to speak Italian, to learn Italian culture, and to prepare for their exams for residency, visas, and ultimately their Italian citizenship. Jorida came to Milan on a student visa and now has received a residency permit called, permesso di soggiorno that must be reevaluated time to time. Jorida is on a mission to work hard on behalf of herself and the many other immigrants living in the province of Milan.
Jorida has created her own immigrant storytelling project entitled, Your Story Is My Story. Her thesis is that we are all human and come from many parts of the world. In every person's story there is an element that overlaps with one's own story. This documentary project is an ongoing project for Jorida as she and Giovanni begin another semester of classes at Scuola Popolare Migranti. Jorida is amazing!
