00:00 Is Kathleen Hagan? I'm 57 years old. Today is Wednesday, July 29th, 29 2020 and I'm in Pullman Washington with my father Larry Hagan a little bit older than her.

00:18 I just turned 89 about 2 weeks ago.

00:25 Well living photo Washington Ave. Been here for 7 years. Now being a kid. I'm always fascinated by your stories. But you know when we're in groups of people I can see other people, you know, also like okay. Well gasoline likes to have you told a story about getting into air traffic control and why I told that field initially I am taking some courses in high school in aviation.

01:07 And then I went to work after I getting out of high school going to reorder C.

01:13 During the summer months when Korea broke out.

01:17 And naturally I'm whole bunch of us.

01:21 1 guys said we were going to service.

01:26 So what I was doing the Levi.

01:29 Montana if you never seen the ocean before I just wanted to join the Navy so we join the Navy and this was I think in August of 1950.

01:49 This after Korea broke out.

01:52 Getting sworn into the Navy going down to basic training a hundred and some people might basic training camp.

02:02 Company

02:05 Laal, give us a test where they call this guy in my class. My company. I came in Lumber third, so they gave me a choice of what I might go into after explaining.

02:28 I picked Aviation with the possibility to get into Flight Training.

02:33 Well, that's true.

02:34 Basic training has ended.

02:37 That's enough talk to Memphis, Tennessee, which was the

02:41 The aviation training school

02:49 Williams Joyce

02:51 Well actually was was already a choice that is a bunch of classes to see what we were interested in and then you write down your dreams.

03:03 Well after we gave you a traffic control that's for me.

03:08 Do I put down air traffic control? Number one?

03:13 The following choices for Dropper 2 and 3

03:17 They tried to talk me out of number one because I said there's only going to be three people. I was last selected for a traffic.

03:24 Which time three times in a row I could down air traffic control number one.

03:29 And ends up getting a history of us with air traffic control School in Olathe, Kansas.

03:40 After getting out of basic training we're supposed to. It's something I'll leave time or anytime with proper medical school. We had about two weeks before I got my bike back.

04:14 Yeah, they're set my timer that came back to air traffic control School, Olathe, Kansas.

04:25 And then after graduation they gave you a choice of different.

04:31 Airport should I go to

04:34 That my first choice was Seattle working.

04:39 That's the one with the other controllers. That was his phone. So he talk to you in the face. So I went to the California Naval Air Station concerns for the song coming up.

04:55 I spent that you don't have to earn the narcotic control Vizio. Don't get all we had.

05:04 That one that one wasn't only maybe you also had a civilian Transportation was going to say that and Alameda.

05:24 Local control to Hawaii

05:39 Those photos

05:47 Happy for what is that.

05:54 Safeway

05:59 But only those five of them bills and one burned need me at 8208 218-239-2482 to burn so these would fly from San Francisco to Hawaii State Farm Show tickets a week.

06:25 Never did get all the money. I remember these numbers that they like that it has the biggest engines so they can load it down heaviest. We're taking off and then get to go going down to see Lane and far off of the jail bottles.

07:12 Well, thank you for one, now. They like that and one of these c-47s.

07:41 Which is a same as a DC-3.

07:45 Was there a National Guard came in there one day and

07:49 Hey, are you all day long? And I'm getting ready to leave.

07:55 That was working. The seaplane position. Most of the airport is also.

08:01 And yes, I do get ready for takeoff.

08:05 Do I take off after coordinating with the other controller and he pulled out there and tell me you will look right?

08:13 But stop them right there on the ramp.

08:16 And got on my block.

08:23 In the aircraft is red, and they put that in there. So they know better doesn't flip them with that on there and take it off probably would have made it if you didn't have any other fallen, so well, we're busy he would probably embarrassed because of his daughter was on board.

09:08 And anyway, that was

09:16 And went to Kodiak, Alaska.

09:20 The transition from Alameda to Kodiak where you just do every year and 1/2 you had to go then you can stay as long as three years and one facility.

09:43 Tell him to take it off and drop your mother off at home.

Do they still take me to High V what they called him.

29:52 Anyway

30:14 Well, that one was interesting to because that one you also had military traffic and traffic at 4 and 1/2 miles apart.

30:29 Welding spy plane flying and all the air traffic to Arcadia coffee plus we have

30:48 Air National Guard

30:55 And then we'll have all the gloves painting from Phoenix come down there like the stories, you know, we're kind of close to the Mexico border every day about do you know you can see

31:21 In certain conditions you could see actually inside the cars or something Highway Patrol the Sheriff Department police department.

31:38 LS1 Highway Patrol

31:43 It was fine. I'm between the airports and I have they called us because it's so close to the airport.

31:49 And I told myself this traffic about 11 and 2 miles slow moving probably on the ground. And normally we wouldn't get drunk at least 40 miles an hour or you might be at 2.

32:07 Cars and the radar thought it was the same one.

32:10 And so he's okay just a little bit later. I said there's another one down there fast moving fast moving.

32:30 Better that's all that power.

32:37 Is going back to Mexico and for some reason I thought it was going on to Phoenix. I had about 10 miles before I noticed you didn't say a word.

33:04 Pandora

33:07 It is interesting up there to do with them after I get out of it after a heart attack and the cardiologist gave me five years to live.

33:20 405 years old 41 years ago

33:27 Yeah, I feel better now.

33:39 IFunny got my medical bag so I can fly again in the Bank of America back, but I still did some flying anyway for the airport manager for two years in California.

34:07 And I supposed to get a job a full-time job proposition 14 came to an end when he was available.

34:16 Remember that one so I went to work for airline there as a dispatcher in work them for about a year and a half.

34:23 What day was it worthwhile with the free benefits?

34:37 What know you were a little rumor hotel right on the beach $25 a night and in the airliner?

35:18 When you're working for the airline, and I remember you often. You know what you seem to be on call and would be called out. They all know so weather Observer, so I'ma need weather when the tower was close. I can give me a call. I'm at you on call.

35:44 What is the weather at midnight Road someplace in the morning?

35:53 Bananas

35:56 I hope it has every morning you and Mom would go out to the end. So boring with movement.

36:12 It's been a good life looking back on us 89 years of good time planned out, but I think I planned it all worked out well and Joanne.

36:38 Enjoy the people at work more still there one time and his lawyer Jeff, okay.
