Description

I interviewed my grandpa about my family background and his journey of coming to the United States. This interview sheds a light onto a unique community located in Jamalpur, Ahmadebad called Chhipawad. Chhipawad consists of thousands of people, whose ancestors migrated from Rajisthan to Ahamadebad. The name Chhipawad derived from migrated ancestors who owned a business of printing, commonly known has "chhaapana." The people of Chhipawad, now known as Chhipas, have over 500 business in print, textile, and other occupations such as oil refinery and food markets. The uniqueness of Chhipawad does not stop there. The people of this community, communicate with a spoken lanuage known as Chhipa, which is a dilect of Marwari, a Rajisthani language. The Chhipawad community is not only growing in India. Thanks to my grandpa being one of the first Chhipas to come to the U.S., the population of Chhipawad community is growing in the U.S as well.
