He remembers hearing Dr. King was assassinated when he was in class. It didn’t really sink in until he went to Memphis and saw the location.
“I wouldn’t have been anything else except Black in America.”
Aunt was a strong woman in his life. George never knew his father. He misses him. He hasn’t recovered from not knowing him. Thus, he tried to be the best man, the best father.
George leads by example. He remembers showing a young man how to tie a tie and go to church. He led the man to help get a job.
George is glad he figured out early on that he was happy.
This interview is a dream come true. People want to leave their mark, to know they existed.
