My Great Thanksgiving Listen was centered around race. Since my grandmother lived through the Civil Rights Movement, I wanted to hear her opinion about what it was like to live in a society that did not want her. I wanted to know what it was like to see unimaginable changes in the attitudes held towards blacks take place in a few decades. I interviewed to my grandmother about her growing up in the segregated south and the discrimination she faced as an African American. We discussed major milestones in her life and the life of the United States (The Civil Rights Movement, MLK’s assassination, President Obama’s election, etc.) and talked about what everyday people can try to do to solve the ever-prevalent issue of racism in the United States.
