One Small Step partners Nicholas Green (31) and Lesley Riddell-Koch (49) discuss the kindest people in their life, their experiences teaching students about the constitution's amendments, and their experiences living in Wichita, Kansas.

L shares more about herself. She says she lives out in the country outside of Wichita, Kansas and has always had horses. L recalls scrubbing toilets for work one summer and reflects on how it affects her view on immigration and hospitality now. She says she went to college and majored in horticulture production. L adds that she was recently hired as a middle school teacher. L talks about the importance of agriculture.
N shares more about himself. He says he was the first person in his family to finish college, got an undergraduate degree in education, and is a social studies teacher in Kansas. N shares that he is going through a divorce right now. N says nerdisms are an integral part of his life and he does a lot of work to make kids feel accepted and involved. N says he was selected to go to Germany for two weeks and talks about how impactful the experience was. He says he’s also been able to go to many cities across the United States and it has given him a much wider view of things.
L reflects on the kindest people in her life. She talks about her parents. She recalls a time when her property was engulfed in a fire and her community rallied around her to help her.
N talks about the support he received after his ex-wife left him. He talks about five of his friends who gave him a place to stay, made sure he was eating, talked to him, and took care of him. N says those five people are the reason that he is as put together as he is right now.
N and L talk about teaching. L reflects on asking her students which of the first 10 amendments is the most important and being surprised by the varying answers. N describes how he goes about teaching the amendments to his students.
L talks about her role as an election judge. She says she is very pleased with how elections are running with the new machines in place.
L and N talk about how conspiracies are profitable and how instead we should be focusing on feeding people and building infrastructure.
N talks about student loan debt. He shares that he has six digits in student loan debt. He says his plan for his student loan debt is to die. L shares that her father worked in banking and he pointed out to her that student loans have way too high interest rates and should never be above prime.
L says she has really enjoyed living in Wichita, Kansas. N says he has not been as pleased living in Wichita the past couple of years. He says he has been accused of “pushing his own agenda” by parents a lot in the past couple of years. L says COVID brought out the best and the worst in people.
