Jason Brown already had Philadelphia roots when he moved from Virginia to the Philadelphia area in 1969 as a sixteen year old. His father, Bishop Poindexter F. Brown, was the pastor of Endtime Zion Church of Jesus Christ, a Pentecostal Apostolic church in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia. Jason Brown graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1972. From his graduation to his retirement, he worked many jobs but predominately as a landscaper. Jason Brown is an ordained deacon and enjoyed a musical career including as a drummer and vocalist with the Philadelphia-based gospel band, Blue Gates of Harmony. As a recording artist and member of the band, Deacon Brown performed at larger venues like the Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House and the Robin Hood Dell East, as well as touring on the gospel circuit. He has performed on the same concert bills with noted musicians: Shirley Caesar, Mighty Clouds Of Joy, Gospel Roulettes, Blessed Angels, Little Sammy And The Flying Clouds, The Jackson Southernaires, The Williams Brothers, and Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes.
