00:01 My name is Nathaniel. I'm 15. Today is December 10th, and I'm speaking with my mom. Okay, so describe what it was like in your neighborhood growing up.

00:10 I really enjoy my days in the neighborhood because I will usually play with my neighbors almost every day. We will play tag and different games, and we have basically the same routine every day. But the most exciting part was when the weekend was coming because we were allowed to stay on the streets and play even later than usual.

00:32 And this is when you were in elementary school?

00:34 Yes, when I was in elementary school.

00:36 Okay. What are the most important traditions that have been passed down through the family?

00:42 Growing up, I was always excited about spending Christmas with my grandparents. Me and my cousins will put up the Christmas tree, we will decorate it, we will put a nativity set, and we will have to wait until Christmas Eve to put baby Jesus. A big part of the celebration on Christmas was lighting fireworks. That was really fun.

01:02 Did you like going to school? Why or why not?

01:06 Yeah, I really enjoy going to school because I will enjoy talking to my classmates. I didn't have that many friends around in the house. So basically going to school was a way for me to talk to my friends and play games during recess and just, like, having fun with them.

01:26 Okay, what are your most vivid memories of school?

01:30 Well, you know, around September, when we celebrate Independence Day, we will have to. We will have, like, a special celebrations every Monday. We will have to, like, dance, like, traditional dance from our culture and. Yeah, and we had a celebration when it was the day of the Independence Day.

01:54 Was this Independence Day of El Salvador?

01:56 Yeah, that is September 15th.

01:59 Okay, tell me about where you grew up.

02:03 Well, I grew up in San Salvador. In El Salvador, I will spend some time with my grandparents and some weekends with my grandparents, and then with my mom and my dad. But, yeah, I pretty much grew up in San Salvador, in the main city of El Salvador.

02:21 Okay. What was the most important thing that happened in your life besides having children?

02:27 I think that the first thing that happened was, like, immigrating to the US Because I started a new life. I went to college here, and basically, I have been living in this country more than I have lived in my own country, El Salvador.

02:41 Okay, thank you for being in my interview.

02:45 Sure.
