Description
Roger Droz (70) and Eric Trumble (31) discuss their different concerns with electric cars, how political parties market their messages and their similarities as engineers.Subject Log / Time Code
Roger Droz (RL) introduces himself. Eric Trumble (ET) introduces himself.
ET explains his family on the East Coast don't understand what it's like to live in Seattle and what the people are like, and that he loves it here. RD jokes that you're meant to tell people it's terrible in Seattle!
RD asks ET if he feels misunderstood from people on the other side of the aisle. ET explains he knows when he mentions he's in favor of government programs one of the things he hears as a rebuttal is, "who's going to pay for it?" And he understands how taxes work, it's likely that the Democratic party is weak at explaining how their proposals will work. RD agrees with the poor messaging with lack of explanation.
ET asks RD if he feels concerned about beliefs in his own party. RD explains he thinks conservatives resist change and want to go backward, but the good old days weren't really that good, wishes we had some of the values of back then like being kind to one another but with the technology of now.
RD asks ET about a moment that shaped ET's beliefs. ET explains a family member had a health issue and they couldn't afford to get it looked at, and as he'd never had that concern before it made him curious to understand how that could be someone's situation.
ET asks RD if he disagrees with someone politically but still respects them. RD names Elizabeth Warren. ET responds he's never voted for a Republican, but did vote for Kim Wyman for WA Secretary of State because he loves the voting system in Washington so really respects what she did for them.
