Japanese microbiologist Mako Takada knew that when she joined JOIDES Resolution, she would find another person on board that is a big fan of basketball just like her. It turns out that even before they boarded the ship for Expedition 390, Mako and Onboard Outreach Officer Laura Guertin discovered their basketball connection in a hotel Zoom meeting during their quarantine period in South Africa.
