Description

Communications student, Anita, interviews her mother Mary, in a 20-minute conversation about being a teen bride, life in the sixties for her African-American family, politics, and, the awesome tradition of black women who wear amazing hats to church, every Sunday. Now, in her eighties, Mary survives her ex-husband (our dad) and is the matriarch to 7 grown children, 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She says: "I am in reasonably good health. I can still get out and do things, like, go to church and spend time with my family, I am grateful for that." Interviewer, Anita, says that she chose to tell her mother's story because: "She is the most influential person in my life. She's taught me so much, including, to always be proud of who I am." Anita is next to youngest of Mary's children who all adore the wise and sassy fashionista and matriarch of this close knit family.
