Description

Me: I am Sebastian Bremer and I will be interviewing Evelyn Bremer, my sister, about a family member that was on drugs.

Question 1:
Me: Who was the person misusing drugs in your family?
Evelyn: My cousin Junior.

Question 2:
Me: Did they ever lie about their addiction to any family members?
Evelyn: Yeah, he played it off like it was just his friends trying different things, and we would see sometimes that he would walk in with like, I don't know, glassy eyes and kind of like hyper and we thought it was weird because normally his demeanor is kind of like chill. So we figured that there was something going on that was weird.

Question 3:
Me: Did they ever steal from the family to get money for their addiction?
Evelyn: Yeah, uh one time during a Christmas party, uhm we had some family members come over and uh, and my Aunt could not find her wallet, and found it thrown on the floor, and it was, she said she had money in it…. Allegedly.. And uh he had disappeared so we all made the assumption that he did steal from her.

Question 4:
Me: How did their addiction affect your family?
Evelyn: Well, I think the fact that even when we were trying to help him. All of our energy and focus was on him, and his sisters were affected by it because they were not getting as much attention from their parents because all their focus was on him, and they were suffering because of it, because they could never have like normal family gatherings without it being… uhm screaming match because he was high and things like that.

Question 5:
Me: Did they ever get into any fights or arguments with family members?
Evelyn: Yes, several times because when he would come on a random day, you know, we were probably just hanging out or having dinner and things like that, uhm, he would come in and you could tell that he was high, and his sisters are younger than him and we didn’t want the smaller kids to see how he was reacting.

Question 6:
Me: Have they regained you or your family’s trust?
Evelyn: No, because his parents are in denial but they know that, there is always a possibility of him walking out the door and him maybe never coming back home.
Question 7:
Me: Was there anything that stuck with you with this experience?
Evelyn: Uhm, just his erratic behavior because he went from being a super cool kid who we all wanted to hang out with, to.. He would come and be sometimes in a really nasty mood, or, not all there like you couldn't have a whole conversation with him because he couldn't put two and two together.
