00:01 Hello, I am Kalionna I am 18 years old. Today is November 7, 2024, and I am speaking with Samuel Odoms who is my inorganic chemistry teacher, and we are currently recording in his classroom. Hello, Mr. Odoms
00:19 Hello.
00:21 What inspired you to get into chemistry?
00:24 I'd like the ability that chemistry is able to explain things and the power that it has to be able to change the world.
00:40 How much education did you need to get where you are today?
00:45 Well, what I do right now, as far as I'm a lecturer here at Sam Houston, I only actually need a master's, but. But I have a PhD in chemistry or biochemistry, so it took four years of undergrad, plus graduate school on top of that.
01:02 And were there any teachers you had a particularly strong influence on your life?
01:10 I mean, I've had a lot of teachers throughout my years, and some were good, some were bad. And so I do have. I do have a lot of experience with teachers, but no one stands out as far as grade or not. Great.
01:30 How has teaching impacted your life? What have your. What influence has your students had on my life?
01:37 I mean, I just enjoy seeing the lights go on in people's eyes. I like to see people understanding stuff. I have enjoyment in that, and it pays the bills.
01:53 Final question. Was there any point where you think you should have chosen a different career?
01:59 Yeah, I'm still thinking about it now. So, I mean, I had done research for a while, and I'm still getting the itch because in research you have the ability to create new things that could possibly help people out and cure diseases and stuff. And that's the kind of stuff that I like to do.
02:20 Thank you, Mr. Odoms
