Description

Growing up in the remote Upper St. John Valley, on the border between Maine and New Brunswick, George Findlen longed for a larger world. Even while he longed for the variety and intellectual stimulation this world represented to him, he was completely unprepared to live in it. His mother, seeing his hunger for learning, arranged for him to go to a prep school on the coast of Maine. As George describes it, he was launched, like baby Moses in a boat, to sink or swim. He swam.
