Description

“Family is the most important piece of my DNA so to have to pretend that I wasn’t a part of the only family I had ever known felt wrong but I knew that I had to do it if I wanted to see my mom again.” Sara Mejia a freshman in high school interviewed her mother, Alex Mejia, in Arleta, California about her experience when immigrating over the border. In this interview you will hear about her journey across the border, the new opportunities she got once across the border, and the challenges she faced through the journey. She was crossing the US and Mexico border. At just 5 years old, making it 1986, she had to fulfill tremendous tasks. It was a scary and risky experience, as mentioned in minute 7 second 5. She, her younger sister, older brother, and father were looking for a better life. They wanted to have more opportunities and freedoms that unfortunately, their home country was not able give them.
