This interview was conducted in November 2017 in College Point, NY, Maui Cate Tumanda interviews her mother, Marichu Tumanda, about her life and childhood. Mrs. Tumanda’s parents had a great impact in her life and were one of the factors shaped the person she is now, she expresses this in the beginning of the interview when she discusses her school life. Mrs. Tumanda talks about her time moving to America, the experiences of hardships and adapting. There were many obstacles she needed to overcome, her move tested her patience and perseverance. She mentions being “homesick” but she explains how she overcomes this by “video calling”. Mrs. Tumanda explains her motivation to moving to America, portraying her American dream in this quote, “America is the land of opportunity and only if you work hard for it.” Near the end of the discussion, she reveals her siblings and their different lifestyles. She ends the discussion with advice to future generations.
