Description

Thom Yarnal chatted with Fiona Rogers in the First Aid Room at Scottish Sessions about discovering Pinewoods from a background in dancing and theater direction in 1986. Coming to Camp changed the ways he interacted in the rest of his life, and caused him to focus on community building in his work. This outlook, he says, made him not just a better person but better citizen in the world, a gift he has been able to pass on to many others. Traditions learned at camp like sword dancing (Longsword and Rapper) informed his theater direction, and his professional dancing career likewise influenced his folk dancing. He went on to work for CDSS at Pinewoods in 1991, and on Pinewoods Crew as Office Manager in 2005 and 2019. Thom served on the Pinewoods board in the 1990s, working on the Pinewoods Post and Fundraising Campaigns, and has been a loyal volunteer from 2021 until present (2025).
