Cloud scientist Steven Platnick is trying to learn how clouds may magnify—or minimize—the effects of climate change. He first got excited about clouds when his Ph.D. advisor, who "treated us like equals," started asking questions about clouds. "He asked questions like a high school kid," Platnick said.

Platnick also discussed the threat of climate change and every member of society's responsibility to educate themselves on the science. "We're in an environment where people can be self-taught or at least self-appreciate the science as we understand it now, and I would hope that that helps lead to more informed decisions in the future."
