Description

Jeremy Werdell, an Oceanographer in the Ocean Ecology Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, discusses his lifelong passion for studying the ocean, which started with a school field trip to a marine biology lab. He describes how happening to work with a professor focusing on using optics for research led to him building his career around using light to measure the oceans. He also discusses the importance of moving from academic competition to cooperation, and the social impact of NASA's expertise in creating long-term data records and observing the oceans and skies. He recommends that young people learn to be curious and challenge their mentors and advisers. (Recorded 10 December 2018)
