Description

Bimla and Naraindas Pherwani had a comfortable life in Sindh, in present-day Pakistan. But suddenly, after the partition of India, when they were just children, they were forced to leave their home and go to India. Arriving with nothing but their clothes, they struggled to start a new life in Mumbai, India. They needed to work, for very little pay, to sustain themselves while they studied hard in school, hoping to eventually reach a state of financial stability and finally succeeding. On January 5, 2020, they are interviewed by Rohan Pherwani, their grandson, located in New Hope, Pennsylvania. From Mumbai, India, and via telephone, they tell the story of their difficult childhoods.
