A Good Head on Your Shoulders! Alisia and Niko

Description

My name is Alisia Lilliebridge, and I chose my youngest brother Nikolas Perales for this interview because we are a decade apart in age! I thought it could be a thought-provoking conversation.
One of the topics we always discuss is how different school is now from when I was his age, so I chose to center some of the questions around his experience in high school. This subject was boring for him, so I still selected some more complex questions from the list provided.
We interviewed in my bedroom since it was furthest from my daughter playing. We needed a quiet background to prepare. My brother lives with me, so I know him well, but we mostly joke around. I was pleasantly surprised to see that he was taking the interview seriously and putting some thought into his answers. Even after rerecording for 5th time because I wasn’t aware swiping to the next question on the StoryCorps app pauses the recording! We were a few minutes into each attempt before I figured out what was happening, so it was highly frustrating.
Thankfully, Nikolas was very patient and encouraging throughout the entire process. He is a great kid and made the interview easy for us both. I will use my interviewing skills in my career for collaborations and conversations with people in my field to add value to my content.
