Description

John Friedrich (55) talks with his friend Bob Alpern (92) about being arrested at the White House with Dick Gregory and more than 100 others to protest the Reagan Administration's Contra War in Nicaragua. At the DC jail later that evening, Bob found himself at the phone to make his one call at the same time as Gregory, who he let call first since he needed to let his wife and 8 children know that he wouldn't be home in time for dinner that evening.
Bob recounts his meeting with Oliver North about the Contra War, and how he was flagged during a meeting with Jimmy Carter's constituency director Midge Costanza because of his prior arrest at the U.S. Capitol during a protest against the Vietnam War.
