Chandler Nandkumar (20) from Gloucester Township, NJ and Kendall Sano (19) from McLean, VA participated in this One Small Step conversation as part of their Public Service Pathways 1-credit UNST course at UVA. Both students share a rich cultural background, Chandler’s father is Indo-Guyanese and her mother is African American, and Kendall’s family is fifth-generation American with deep roots in Hawai’i. They discuss their memories of President Obama’s election and its historic significance. Chandler talks about the importance of her Christian faith, and how her values shape her beliefs. Kendall shares that he leans slightly conservative, but aligns with Democrats on social issues. They also discuss their academic interests and extracurricular activities, which are very different.
