Sapatis Menomin (S) explains how he came to study at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB).
JP Leary (JP) shares how he came to work at UWGB.
S shares his favorite memories from UWGB: joining the FNS Center (First Nations Studies) and being a part of the inter-tribal student council.
JP explains that the FNS center has elders in residence. JP and S say many non-native students do not have that intergenerational experience and appreciate having those relationships.
S talks about how his coursework at UWGB.
S reflects on the research he did on university policy and how the university can better provide for Native students. JP talks about how he, S, and others involved went about creating a video to take further action with their findings.
JP and S discuss the importance of students seeing themselves reflected in their environment.
S says he's just wrapped up a job where he was hired to set up a community-based project in the Forest county Potawatomi community. S adds, "the best thing that came out of it was finding a community that was accepting of me." S explains how one of the outcomes of the project was reintroducing Native lacrosse back into the community.
S and JP discuss a mapping project they worked on together.
JP says he would like to assemble another research team. He tells S, "I'm glad to have been a part of your educational journey."
