Karen (K) shares the history of the Charmaine Nymann Community Garden in Colorado Springs, also known as the Bear Creek Community Garden.
K explains what it was like when the county ran the garden and the transition to having it run by a nonprofit organization and volunteers.
John (J) and Nancy (N) detail how they got involved with the community garden and their decision to make a movie about it.
N describes what she learned about the community of gardeners.
J and N recall filming a mother and son working in the garden when they came upon a snake.
K remembers a father and son who gardened together. K shares that the father passed away, and the son decided not to return to the garden because for him, the important part of the garden was spending time with his father.
J says many of the gardeners he met came from farming families.
K talks about the variety of plants grown in the garden.
K tells J and N about the organizations to which the garden donates crops.
K says a goal of the garden is to teach the gardeners to give away extra produce and not let crops languish.
