Subject Log / Time Code

Kurt McCoy (KM) and Elizabeth Gibbs (EG) share how they met their respective spouses.
KM shares the work a local museum is doing surrounding the removal of monuments in Richmond, Virginia.
EG is fascinated by the division in the United States. She reflects that many people want the same things and it is heartbreaking to see such anger.
They discuss the conversations they have with their children to gauge their opinions and awareness, as well as how teenagers navigate cliques and togetherness.
They compare and contrast the environments they grew up in versus the environments their children are growing up in.
KM and EG talk about the acknowledgement versus the rewriting of racist histories, particularly pertaining to their own southern towns.
EG considers racism outside of the South.
KM and EG consider their shared identities as Southerners and Americans as well as EG's identity as a Briton.
They discuss the concept of home. KM reflects that his home is South Carolina, but he feels he could not live there now. This is because he thinks the dominant belief system forces people into a binary.
The pair discuss navigating their beliefs and applying their values in spaces where there may be disagreement.
They both appreciate the opportunity to reflect upon why they believe what they believe. They express their hope to continue having these conversations.
