Lisa (L) and Krishna (K) recall how they met during their senior year in high school.
K describes how he went from working in engineering to working in emergency medicine. He says he now works for the government in Veteran's Affairs.
L talks about her studies in history and her career in education.
L speaks about her grandfather's influence on her life. She says her grandfather wrote his dissertation about school integration.
K shares about his parents' influence on his life.
L says more on her connection to Decatur. She says after doing research on her family history, she learned that her great grandfather lived in Decatur and wrote stories about the area. L adds that he is buried in Decatur Cemetery.
L and K discuss the draw of Decatur. L says the town feels like home. K recalls traveling into Decatur for the Indian restaurants in the area and says he wanted the same experience for their daughter.
L and K talk about how they got married. They say they did a full, traditional Hindu wedding as well as an American style wedding.
K and L describe themselves as children.
L and K share what they are most proud of. They both say they are proudest of their daughter Veda.
K says growing up, he thought work would be a defining part of his life whereas now he defines himself primarily through family.
L says more on what it means to be "from" Decatur. She explains that when she lived in other states, people often had expectations of her as a white woman from the South. L says her experience of living in the South was growing up in a really diverse place.
K says when he lived in the NYC, it was diverse but the communities felt segregated whereas in Decatur, everyone is your neighbor.
L and K share their hopes for the future.
