Michelle Parkerson (67) relates the arc of her career to Maria Santiago (35). She credits her parents for supporting her early artistic leanings, including her appreciation for jazz, writing, and acting. Parkerson tells of her time at Temple University, where a widely-shared music video cemented her path as an independent filmmaker. She describes making her award-winning films, Stormé: The Lady of the Jewel Box; Gotta Make This Journey: Sweet Honey in the Rock; and A Litany for Survival: The Life and Work of Audre Lorde.
