Monserrat Macias Moreno (29) speaks with her friend and mentor Jacqueline "Jackie" Jaramillo (72) about their identity as Latinas, their family histories, and their hopes for the Latino population in the United States.

Monserrat (M) says she was born in Mexico and is currently a DACA recipient. She talks about her career journey in the restaurant and banking industries. M adds that she later started her own business–Consulta–a consulting and translation company focused on the Latino community.
Jacqueline (J) says her family has been in what is now the Southwest of the United States for eleven generations. J talks about her family's migration from New Mexico to Colorado. She recalls how educators told her mother that she needed to stop speaking Spanish to J and how traumatizing that was. She describes her childhood in Colorado Springs.
J says that when she got into college, the Chicano movement illuminated the discrimination Latinos and Chicanos faced in the United States. She says she became an activist and organizer.
M and J reflect on the journey of finding themselves and figuring out their identities. J talks more about her family's history in the U.S. and Mexico.
M talks about how much Colorado Springs has changed over the years. J says this is a hopeful and pivotal moment for the Latino community in the U.S.
J reflects on her legacy. She says that she wants her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to thrive in the U.S. M says she will soon be a mother and also wants her daughter to thrive in the U.S.
M describes how her parents have influenced her life.
J describes the influence her mother had on her. She says her mother taught her about community involvement.
J says Latinos can be an example to the U.S. on how to embrace diversity.
