“I want them to know sometimes you can take risks, sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t,” I.N. says of the lessons he wants to leave his grandchildren.
“You were the first risk taker that got us together. You took the risk of speaking to me on a college campus.” P.N. tells a story of how she met I.N.
“Our sense was if we were together, it would work out, and it did,” I.N. says.
“The lesson that I learned is not to be passive in your life.” P.N. shares what she learned from being a child of Holocaust survivors and what it meant for them to survive against all odds.
“I think the worst thing you can do in life is not have choices and feel stuck. We’ve done the best to not be stuck,” I.N. says.
“There’s a deep gratitude and privilege in being with someone… a willingness to face life with gusto and go through life with honesty and openness.” P.N. shares her respect and admiration for I.N.
“You’re courageous in everything you do,” P.N. says. “I do it with your support,” I.N. responds.
“Our struggle now is how do we place our soul in the black lives matter movement, how do we place it in our very fragile democracy.” P.N. prompts herself and I.N. to consider the risks they’ll need to take now.
