This One Small Step conversation was recorded in Charlottesville, Virginia as part of the Sorensen Institute’s summer High School Leaders Program in 2023. Raeid Ebrahim (18) is from Fauquier County and Lily Brame (17) is from New Kent. Raied is running for the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors, and discusses his inspiration to run for local office at a young age. He also shares the influence of his parents, immigrants from Ethiopia. Lily shares about the values her mother, a teacher, instilled in her and discusses how politics looks different in a small, rural community. She also describes the challenges of engaging meaningfully across ideological differences with peers, who may not articulate or defend their views robustly.
