Description

Graduate student Claire Jasper was a sedimentologist on Expedition 395 (June 12 - August 12, 2023). To prepare for her first-ever expedition at sea, she asked people that had previously sailed on JOIDES Resolution "thousands of questions," especially as she tried to picture what a 12-hour work day would look like. She found the scientists "exceptionally welcoming", celebrated eight birthdays, and valued the dinner conversations with scientists and technicians across career stages. Some of Claire's top memories also include weight lifting, a white board with a never-ending stream of comics getting posted, and being a part of "the most well-functioning lab I've ever been in."

*Audio recorded October 26, 2023. In this conversation, Claire refers to her roommate at Columbia University, Celeste Pallone. You can also listen to Celeste's experience on JOIDES Resolution for Expedition 397 in this Tales from the Deep collection.
