Whitney Broussard (45) interviews his uncle Charles Monlezun (77) about his experience living through Hurricane Audrey.

Charles (C) tells Whitney (W) how Hurricane Audrey impacted those who lived through it. He describes what it was like when the eye of the storm passed on June 27th, 1957, as well as witnessing the destruction in the aftermath.
C details how the community dealt with all the dead bodies.
C remembers witnessing National Guard members holding the dead body of a ten year old boy. He recalls sleeping in a military tent.
C says when he was in basic training eleven years later, he slept in a similar tent and would wake up in the night, nauseated. C says he was trigged and recalling Hurricane Audrey, but allowed himself to feel sadness in a therapeutic way.
C shares advice he would give to others trying to manage trauma.
C says his family would talk about what they remembered but not about how they felt.
C says after the Hurricane Audrey, he lost his ten year old brother to drowning. He says when he was nauseous in basic training, it wasn't just about remembering the ten year old boy from the hurricane but also about grieving the loss of this brother.
